Bookstores are clogged with thousands of self-help books — the first problem of which is what we cannot help ourselves. God must help us. Kevin Swanson briefly discusses the problems with the certain pentecostalist perspectives relating to signs and miracles, prayer, and the sovereignty of man. Then we look at some of the most commonly used self-help, success books on the market. We find that they tend to tout the wrong worldview, setting man’s sovereign will against the sovereignty of God. Then faith is placed more in self than in God. When both goal and motive is wrong, can we trust the method will be the right one?
Homeschooled himself in the 1960's and 70's, Kevin Swanson and his wife, Brenda, are now homeschooling their five children. Since graduating from his homeschool and then serving as student body president of a large west coast university, he has gone on to other leadership positions in corporate management, church, and other non-profits.
