Piggybacking on a Wall Street Journal article, we discover that Nero’s the hero, and Vlad the Impaler is not so bad in the revisionist histories of the day. But how does one of the most contemptible men in human history achieve such prominence in the British Museum? We take a look at how Nero was viewed by the early Church Fathers and those who wrote on the book of Revelation in the first centuries. They thought he was the Beast. But now, what is this — the return of the Beast or at least, the beastly principle? This introduces the discussion of how we look at the good guys and bad guys in history. Should we take sides?
